Beaches and surfing
The Basque Country facing the ocean
In Biarritz, every beach has its own character. The Grande Plage, in the heart of the town, is lined by an elegant promenade overlooked by the Hôtel du Palais, once the villa of Empress Eugénie, where you can stroll from morning to sunset.
The Côte des Basques, a long stretch of sand facing the waves, is famous for its sunsets and its surfers. More intimate, the Port-Vieux beach, sheltered in a small cove, suits quiet swims and families. Do not miss the calmer Miramar beach either.
Biarritz is a surfing landmark in Europe: beginner or experienced, you will find schools for every level, and boards and wetsuits to hire on site. Even without getting on a board, watching the surfers from the promenade is part of the experience. Depending on the tides and the swell, the ocean changes its face: our reception will help you choose the best beach or session of the day.
